Looking at the website made me think about avatar email addresses, which people may not realize is pretty easy to do and can be very useful. Like most people, I get a lot of email and having an avatar email address helps keep my RL activity separate from my digital life. I have two email addresses but mostly use chestnut.rau@gmail.com. Gmail has great features such as virtually unlimited storage and gtalk which is a great way to keep intouch via IM. If you don't have an email account for your avatar you may want to consider creating one.

Last night I attended the New World Gala party at RMB City along with a *lot* of other people. I plan to go back to explore some more as it was really hard to do with 65 avatars in the sim. This picture shows the swan that flies around in the clouds. Now I did not know swans could fly that high, but I was also unaware that koi the size of buildings flip out of the water and land on the other side of the sim either. Please do take a moment to explore RMB City as its a pretty cool place.

I wrote about ways how to guess an avatar's email address several months ago and got some bashing for "promoting stalking". Fact is, that the vast majority of active community members have a GMail address already.
On the other hand I am quite surprised why Linden Lab does not make addresses like avatarfirstname.avatarlastname@mail.secondlife.com for everybody by default. Emails sent to this address could be forwarded to the mail address you have specified on login. Seems a reasonable thing to do.
Why would Linden spend the money and time to create a system when "the vast majority of active community members have a gmail address already"?
I am not sure that it is true that everyone already has a gmail account. A lot of people do surely, but I offered this observation because not everyone has thought to create such an email address. It was just a friendly suggestion for folks who may not have had the idea.
How many of us use our gmail as the address we list with Linden Lab? My offlines go to my gmail account. Do yours?
Yes, they do :-) Peter Stindberg is 100% virtual, and has a full identity on its own right.
When I did that infamous post a few months back, an (unrepresentative) poll showed that almost everybody of the people I asked had their avatar address on GMail, 2 or 3 on Yahoo and only one did not have an avatar address at all.
And yes, you are right, why should they create that service in the first place? I thought it's just neat and sort of offers itself, but right, most active residents found one way or the other already.
In this context it is worth stating again what - according to my experience - many people do not know: if you get your IM's delivered via email, you can actually ANSWER to them via email as well. Some limits apply - the IM must not be too "stale" for example, or 7-bit ASCII is required for the reply message. The email address you answer from does NOT get disclosed (unless you have it listed in a footer).
