AM Radio's ability to evoke a certain melancholy is unparalleled. This rainy Monday morning I came upon this sewing machine in the middle of the desert I thought "yes, this is exactly how I feel."

107 of 365 Architecture in Second Life
Jon Brouchoud is Keystone Bouchard in Second Life. He is perhaps the best known name in Second Life architecture, along with the MIA and very much missed Scope Cleaver. You can read about Jon's incredible work at ARCH Virtual a site "dedicated to providing news, current events related to architecture and design in virtual worlds and game environments." At ARCH Virtual Bouchoud describes some of his work, including a $900 million facility that was prototyped in SL and is currently under construction in San Diego.
Yesterday I got a group notice about one of Brouchoud's inworld projects, "Virtual Architecture 101." Here is how he describes the experience on his website:
Virtual Architecture 101 is a free, interactive, self guided, educational installation in Second Life, designed to provide visitors with a sampling of architectural fundamentals, design processes, strategies and best practices for creating effective virtual world projects. The installation also includes case studies and offers specific tips, tricks and techniques covering a wide range of virtual world development topics. It is not intended to be an all-inclusive resource, but to simply provide a sample overview of design basics and strategies. If you want brush up on some fundamentals, or if you are planning to develop a project in a virtual world, this installation is designed to serve as a starting point and a place to gather ideas and inspiration for making your project a success.
Here are a few teaser images from Virtual Architecture 101, intended to entice you to visit!

I have always thought if any RL business could benefit in a significant way from a virtual space, architecture would be a prime candidate. Imagine building a virtual model of a proposed RL building and allowing a customer to "see" and "feel" the space by actually walking through. I think there is great power in that experience and the potential is huge. At least $900 million in potential if you ask Jon Brouchoud, I would guess. Read more about his work on OpenSim here on NWN and his 2009 Metanomics build here on the now defunct NPIRL blog. Please do visit Virtual Architecture 101 and imagine the possibilities.

102 of 365 Cranky Mama is cranky

Last Friday it was 60 degrees F here. The sky was blue and nature clearly declared Spring would actually come again this year. Eventually.
Today?
You can see the view out my office window above. Please forgive the quality of the cellphone picture through the screen. You get the basic idea. We had 8 inches of powdery snow overnight. This turn of events, combined with exactly 9 teenagers in my house overnight has left me one cranky mama.

100 of 365 "193, the arc"

Sometimes I come across cool builds in the oddest ways. Today I logged in and noticed there were a lot of visitors to my greenhouse. I love when people visit but I do keep visitor counters around because for some reason I like to know who has been sitting on my sofa. Call it my Goldilocks syndrome if you will.
I was checking out the profiles of the random people who have been hanging out in my house and came across a LM for an unfinished build called "193, the arc" which is one of those glowy otherworldly kind of spaces that I just love. I was not sure what this place was all about at first and the notecards you get at the entrance were only slightly illuminating.
Welcome to *193, the arc*, still under construction.*you are not alone, we come in peace,...*verbal creativity:AnnuNaki, Sumerian, Nibiru, Niburu, the arc, vortex math, Rodin coil, starship, ancient legends, future, peace, wisdom, knowledge, illumination, DNA, light, love,...cosmic consciousness, ...QVT of all matter,...Important:-Best view with Grafics Settings in ULTRA and Draw Distance maximal (512 m and more).-flight assist needed for access all areas.PLEASE USE THE TELEPORT SYSTEM TO REACH DIFF> AREAS OF 193 , the arc*.The little Dino's are ride-able, just sit on them and type start in chat.To understand some hidden details and messages in the arc build better, it is recommanded to have a look at listed links below in the attached note.enjoy your stay,Abel Moonites
There is a note embedded in the initial notecard which suggests. "To understand some hidden details and messages in the arc build better, it is recommanded to have a look at listed links."
The links take you to youtube videos about the Rodin Coil and Marko Rodin's vortex-based mathematics. You can see part 1 of 44 (!) here and find the other 43 links from there. I watched the beginning of this video and it was about math, the universe and the meaning of life. I think. Or something. I am not sure. If you have more patience than I do perhaps you will make it through all 44 videos. If not, you can learn more about the mathematical theory behind this intriguing build at this website.
I am not ashamed to say I have no earthly idea what the Rodin Coil is about. I will tell you the build is beautiful and an enjoyable place to visit in Second Life.
The circle is a video screen and I watched for a while. There is spacey music playing and the images that float by your field of vision are mostly spectacular nature scenes. The textures on the wall move as well so its a fairly busy visual environment. Lovely, but busy.
This is a sculpture at the "center of the earth" which you can reach via the teleport system that moves visitors from place to place. There is a dance animation inside the ball with a caption that says something about "feeling the vibration" of the earth. I don't know about that but the dance was kind of fun.
Visit 193, the arc and please explain the theory behind it to me, if you can. Thanks
99 of 365 La Perla - Old Italy

Oddly enough this adorable old Italian village called La Perla is in a sim named FurZona. I can't explain that but I can tell you this sweet spot was full of friendly people exploring the shops and hillsides. There are lovely spots where you can sit by the water and listen to the water gently lap at the shores. I could just about feel the sun on my face and smell the salt air.98 of 365 "Solitaire"
Solitaire is a private sim that is open to the public for your exploring pleasure. If you take some time to walk around you will find a market square with an outdoor cafe that has a working chess board, some interesting shops, and you can, of course, TP to the obligatory empty club.
If you wander a bit farther you will find lovely waterfalls and pretty beaches where you can take in the scenery and relax with a friend or on your own.Beware of the volcano! It was chugging black smoke and it looked to me like it could blow at any second...
See if you can find the catacombs but be careful down there. It was scary and really creepy! I had to hightail it out of there. Enjoy!96 of 365 Fight or Flight
I am so dang tired it isn't funny. My RL job is kicking my tail and there is no end in sight. I am keeping up with a daily images here but interesting and informative words are harder to come by lately. My mind is blank and my head is full of air. When I try to think of something to write about all I hear is the hissing of the radiator inside the emptiness of my mind. I think I am going to hit the elliptical for a half hour to try and rid my body of the last vestiges of a day's worth of "flight or fight."
Yes, I do realize this post makes no sense. Sorry.
