I am a Wackadoodle

I was trying to figure out where the label "Wackadoodle" came from. As near as I can tell, Karl Steifvater was quoted as saying " You know what's the best part of being non-Linden?  I don't have to deal with the wackadoodles any more."   You can find the quote on New World Notes here.    I can understand why Karl said it as anyone who deals with the public has to cope with insane customers now and then.  If you combine that with the "celebrity" status Lindens have I imagine it can get tedious.

I personally take my Wackadoodle status to heart! I am guilty of spending way too much time in Second Life over the years and I am guilty of caring a hell of a lot about the future of SL and virtual worlds generally.  From time to time I am angry with Linden Lab and I say so right here on the Internet.   Its true.  All of it.

So I decided to wear my Wackadoodle title proudly.  If you want your very own title message me.  I will add you to my personal group which I created to manage land way back in 2007 but which exists now only so I can create titles that amuse me.  Like Wackadoodle.

Huzzah!

At the risk of being declared a grammar nazi, I take issue with Hamlet's spelling of "Whackadoodle." As with other issues Hamlet chooses to take on, I hereby officially comment in writing that i think he's wrong yet again about this one. Certainly, the generally accepted spelling is "Wackadoodle."
If we read Qarl's comment on the above-referenced blog, we find some context for his statement. Based on that definition I don't think Chestnut qualifies to be a Wackadoodle. Nonetheless, I hereby announce that I have created the official Wackadoodle group in Second Life and I have sent invites to Chestnut, Whiskey, Crap and Qarl himself. Anyone else interested in being an official *Wackadoodie*, drop me an IM. (I haven't sent an invite to Inara because I don't happen to think she is a Wackadoodle.) Wackadoodle dooooo!

I really don't think Qarl's comment, when taken in the original context, has anything to do with users per se. See http://www.qarl.com/qLab/?p=64 wherein the comment comes after a long line of sympathetic comments from users and colleagues.

Given this context, it seems odd for him to respond by being so apparently negative towards the user community (even if "wackadoodle" can be meant affectionately).

Rather, I'd venture to suggest his spelling of the term as "whackadoodle", rather than "wackadoodle" was entirely deliberate and intended as a negative critique of LL's management.

Just a thought...

Oh well, given his own explanation as to why he used the term - as given on the metareality pod-cast, so much for that theory!
